Grace in the in-between

Dear Glow & Grace Community,

Welcome to the third edition of The Glow Letter.

In July we discussed new beginnings, August reflected on the things that matter. This September focuses on reminding ourselves that growth isn't always comfortable.

Sometimes, growth looks like sitting with difficult emotions and having uncomfortable conversations. It may look like accepting feedback or recognising that certain relationships may not look the way we once imagined.

Sometimes, growth looks like returning to yourself, your values and your faith when life feels uncertain.

I've been reflecting on how easy it is to become so focused on building our futures that we forget to appreciate the lives we're living right now. We can spend so much time planning, working towards our goals and trying to create security for ourselves that being present starts to feel like something we'll get around to later.

But what if we're missing some of the moments we're working so hard for?

This month has also reminded me that we cannot control every circumstance, every relationship or how other people perceive us. We can make an effort, communicate honestly and show up with good intentions, but we cannot always determine the outcome.

What we can control is how we choose to respond.

We can choose to learn rather than become defensive. To give rather than withhold. To remain kind without abandoning our boundaries. To acknowledge our mistakes without allowing criticism to define us.

And perhaps most importantly, we can choose not to let difficult experiences determine the kind of person we become.

Because adversity can leave us feeling disappointed, guarded or even resentful. But it can also deepen our compassion, strengthen our character and inspire us to become the very support we once needed ourselves.

I'm learning that becoming the woman you want to be isn't about getting everything right. It's about returning to your values, even when life challenges them.

So this month's Glow Letter is about finding grace in the in-between.

The space between where you are and where you'd like to be.

Between the relationships you hoped for and the ones you're learning to navigate.

Between the person you are today and the person you're becoming.

You don't need to have everything figured out to keep growing.

Sometimes, you simply need to pause, reflect and choose your next step with intention.

With grace,

This Month's Reflection

You Can't Control Everything, But You Can Choose How You Respond

There will be seasons when life doesn't look the way you imagined.

Relationships may become complicated. Plans may change. Feedback may be difficult to hear. You may find yourself questioning decisions, feeling uncertain about the future or trying to make sense of circumstances beyond your control. When things feel difficult, it's natural to ask why.

But at some point, we must also ask ourselves:

What do I want to do with what I've been through?

We cannot always change what has happened to us, and we don't have to pretend that disappointment doesn't hurt. Some experiences are unfair, and some relationships will require us to accept realities we wish were different.

But we still have a choice in how we move forward.

We can allow disappointment to make us bitter, or we can use it to become more intentional about the lives we want to build.

We can reject every piece of criticism because it hurts, or we can learn to separate what is useful from what isn't.

We can spend our energy trying to control how others see us, or we can focus on living in a way that reflects our values.

This doesn't mean accepting every situation or taking responsibility for things that aren't ours to carry. It means recognising where our responsibility begins: in our choices, our boundaries and our response.

You can acknowledge what hurt you without allowing it to harden you.

This month, give yourself permission to feel what you feel. But also ask yourself what you want to carry forward.

Not every experience needs to become a burden. Some can become lessons. Some can become boundaries. And some can simply be things you learn to release.

You are allowed to grow beyond what you've experienced.

Reflection Questions

Take ten quiet minutes this week and write honestly:

  • What emotions have I carried most this month, and what might they be telling me?

  • Is there something I'm holding on to that is taking more from me than it gives?

  • What feedback have I received recently, and is there anything valuable I can learn from it?

  • Am I showing the people I love that they matter to me through my actions?

  • What do I need to give myself grace for as I move into October?

Remember, reflection isn't about judging yourself for what you could have done differently. It's about understanding yourself well enough to make a different choice next time.

This Month's Reflection

One thing I've been reflecting on this month is generosity.

Sometimes, we associate giving with having more than enough. We imagine that we'll become more generous when we have more money, more time or fewer responsibilities. But generosity doesn't always require grand gestures or abundant resources. Sometimes, it's a small act of kindness. A meal shared with someone. An encouraging message. An hour spent helping a friend. A donation to a cause that matters to you.

I've been reminded that I want generosity to become something I practise intentionally.

One practical step I'm taking is creating a monthly giving fund in my budget and I can use this fund to donating a bag of food to a food bank each month or use it to display generosity in some way. It's a small, consistent action, but that's the point.

You don't have to change someone's entire life to make a difference in it.

And generosity isn't only about what we give financially. It's also about our time, our attention, our encouragement and our willingness to show up for others.

Of course, giving should be sustainable. You can be generous while respecting your own needs and responsibilities.

This month, ask yourself:

What do I have that I could use to make someone else's life a little easier?

You might be surprised by how much you can offer, even in a season when you're still building your own life.

Sometimes the strongest relationships are built through small, consistent acts of care.

Grace for the Month

Galatians 6:10

As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…”

A reminder that grace is found in the small, everyday choices we make to show kindness, give generously, and care for others. We don’t have to do everything  just what we can, with the heart we have

This Month's Intention

Be honest. Be willing to reflect on your behaviour, acknowledge your feelings and have the conversations you've been avoiding.

Be kind. Treat people with consideration, even when life feels difficult. Kindness doesn't mean tolerating everything or abandoning your boundaries.

Be giving. Look for small, sustainable ways to contribute to the lives of others. Make generosity a habit, not just an intention.

Give yourself grace. Recognise that you will have difficult days. You may fall out of routine, lose motivation or respond to something in a way you're not proud of.

What matters is your willingness to reflect, take responsibility where necessary and begin again.

The Glow & Grace woman isn't a woman who never struggles.

She's a woman who continues to learn how to navigate life with self-awareness, compassion, confidence and intention.

This Month's Challenge

The Small Acts of Grace Challenge

This month, I want you to focus on these 2 small actions.

1. Give something.

Choose one way to practise generosity. Donate food, support a cause, help someone with a task or offer your time to someone who needs it.

2. Be present.

Set aside time to enjoy a moment without thinking about what comes next. Have a conversation without checking your phone. Spend time with someone you love. Enjoy a meal without rushing. Let yourself experience the life you're living now.
